Stranglers supporting police humanitarian charity

The Stranglers are backing a police charity which sends humanitarian aid to Romania.

They have become honorary patrons of the Metropolitan Police Service's Convoy 2000 initiative.

Met police cadets wearing Convoy 2000 T-shirts will be taking a collection at a Stranglers' gig on March 2.

The Two-Shades-of-Black gig takes place at Shepherd's Bush Empire.

Stranglers frontman Paul Roberts said: "There are so many under-privileged people suffering in the world, both at home and abroad and Romania is a country where a large section of the population are in a desperate situation."

Convoy 2002 is geared in particular towards terminally ill children dying of Aids, children in care and the aged.

Last year, it delivered more than 300 tonnes of aid and building materials. The next trip leaves for Romania in May 2002.
