Aaliyah film tops US box office

Aaliyah's vampire film Queen Of The Damned is top of the US box office charts.

The film took more than €16.3m in its first three days of release.

Denzel Washington's film John Q slipped to second place, taking €14.2m over the weekend.

Kevin Costner's supernatural drama Dragonfly entered the chart at number three, with €11.9m.

Return to Never Land was fourth with €10.3m, and Britney Spears' film Crossroads was fifth with €8.2m.

Aaliyah completed filming Queen Of The Damned shortly before she was killed in a plane crash in the Bahamas on August 25 last year.

Her older brother, Rashad Haughton, provided over-dubbing of some parts of her role - Aaliyah plays vampire leader Akasha in the movie.
