Collins and new husband ‘may try to adopt baby’
Joan Collins and her new husband Percy Gibson said today they may try to adopt a baby.
And the couple, who married at Claridge’s last Sunday, also disclosed they have not signed a pre-nuptial agreement which would limit how much of Collins’ £5 million fortune Gibson could receive if they divorced.
Brazilian-born Gibson, 36, is 32 years the junior of 68-year-old Collins and became her fifth husband at a lavish ceremony at the exclusive London hotel, with guests who included Roger Moore, Cilla Black, Shirley Bassey and Rupert Everett.
Today Gibson said that he and his new wife had not ruled out attempting to adopt a baby.
‘‘We’ll see what happens,’’ he said.
And Collins, a grandmother-of-one, said she had not signed the kind of pre-nuptial agreement normal among stars to prevent half their fortune being lost in a divorce.
‘‘I didn’t consider it necessary,’’ she said.
‘‘Percy is the most honourable man I’ve ever met.’’
Collins also said she felt nervous before walking down the aisle with Gibson despite having been married four times before, asking her wedding organiser: ‘‘Is it normal to have a dry mouth?’’
The Dynasty star’s first wedding was to British film star Maxwell Reed in 1951, and was followed by unions with composer Anthony Newley, record producer Ron Kass and singer Peter Holm.
But today she described Gibson as her ‘‘soulmate’’ and said: ‘‘He’s so much his own person.
‘‘Extremely secure in his own skin.’’
She dismissed any suggestion that Gibson has a difficult relationship with her three children, daughters Tara, 38, and Katy, 29, and 26-year-old son Sacha.
But it was reported: ‘‘Though Collins says her son Sacha does not adore Gibson as much as her daughters do, they all get along.’’
And her friend Sally Bulloch said: ‘‘I know its a cliche but I have never seen happiness like this radiate from Joan.
‘‘It’s not like she’s the star and he’s the young man.
‘‘They’re just two people very much in love.’’
