Former Bond star Sean Connery has won back his licence to kill, it was disclosed today.

The ex-007 will once more be fighting villains but this time in action movie The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen.

According to reports, 71-year-old Conneryhas closed a deal with 20th Century Fox to take the lead role in the film directed by Steve Norrington.

Connery will play Allan Quatermain, the captain of a group of superpowered individuals taken from adventure literature.

His fellow heroes include Captain Nemo, Dr Henry Jekyll, The Invisible Man, Dorian Gray and Dracula love interest Mina Harker.

It is expected that Connery will also star in sequels to the movie.

The League of Extraordinary Gentleman is an adaptation of Alan Moore’s comic book series set in the Victorian era.

Quatermain, created in the 1880s by Henry Rider Haggard, is considered the precursor to Indiana Jones whose father was played by Connery in Indiana Jones and The Last Crusade starring Harrison Ford.

Shooting is scheduled to start in the summer in the Czech Republic and Morocco and the movie will be produced by Don Murphy, who also produced From Hell starring Johnny Depp.
