Robbie and Dido tipped for Brits success

The UK music industry is gearing up for its biggest night of the year, the Brit Awards.

Hotly tipped for success at the bash are Robbie Williams and Dido, who is hoping to cap a sizzling year with her first award.

Animated band Gorillaz - the brainchild of Blur frontman Damon Albarn and illustrator Jamie Hewlett - led the field in nominations scooping six.

But industry leaks have suggested they will be lucky to walk away with anything like that number.

R&B star Craig David, who last year failed to collect any awards despite being up for six, has been given a second bite of the cherry this year, with a further three nominations.

The ceremony, which has been no stranger to controversy in previous years, will be hosted by Zoe Ball and comedian Frank Skinner.

The show at London's Earl's Court will feature performances from London-based Garage collective, So Solid Crew.

The band, who scored a number one hit with 21 Seconds, found their recent UK tour scrapped following fears that violence could erupt at their shows.

Ali G will also be on stage with Shaggy, performing their new collaboration, Me Julie.

Other performances will include a montage of hits from Sting, who will receive a lifetime achievement award at the ceremony.
