Burt Reynolds to guest star in The X-Files

Burt Reynolds is to guest star in an episode of The X Files.

It was written for him by executive producer Chris Carter.

Reynolds says when he saw the script he realised there was confusion over who his character actually was.

He said: "As I read it, it was a wonderful, wonderful part about a man just so full of joy for life that it's a little unclear about whether he's the devil or the other guy."

Reynolds says it was a challenge to play the role of someone who might be God.

"We have a pretty good idea what JC looks like, but the big guy, or the big girl, we're not sure of," he said.

"I think his voice is a little bit like Ossie Davis or James Earl Jones but I'm not sure. I never thought I had the voice to play anyone like that. "

The episode will be screened in the US in April.

It is not known when it will be shown in the UK.
