The first Lord Of The Rings film is among the nominees for this year's Writers' Guild of America Awards.

British writers Helen Fielding, Andrew Davies, Richard Curtis and Julian Fellowes are all also in the running.

Fielding, Davies and Curtis are nominated for Bridget Jones's Diary and Fellowes for Gosford Park.

The nominees for Best Screenplay based on material previously produced or published the nominees are:

A Beautiful Mind

Black Hawk Down

Bridget Jones's Diary

Ghost World

The Lord of the Rings

In the Best Screenplay written directly for the screen the nominees are:

Gosford Park

The Man Who Wasn't There

Monster's Ball

Moulin Rouge

The Royal Tenenbaums.

The winners will be announced on March 2 in Los Angeles.
