William Young says recording new Pop Idol single was fantastic

William Young says he's even more determined to become a star after recording the Pop Idol debut single.

He spent 36 hours in a London recording studio, along with finalists Gareth Gates and Darius Danesh.

All three have recorded a version of Westlife's song Evergreen from their album World Of Our Own.

"It was fantastic," said Will.

"I've always wanted to record a single and even if mine is never released, it's still an experience I'll cherish. I'm now even more determined to have a career as a singer. It's a great way to earn a living."

The winner of Pop Idol will release the single on Simon Cowell's BMG label shortly after the final of the ITV show on February 9.

The single will be a double A-side but it's not yet known what the other song will be.

According to Pop Idol's official website, Simon made frequent visits to the studio and was pleased with all three recordings.
