Bet's return under discussion, Street bosses confirm

Actress Julie Goodyear has been in talks with Coronation Street bosses about a possible return to the soap as brassy Bet Lynch, it was confirmed today.

A planning conference by the show’s producers at a Cheshire hotel has discussed the possibility of the 59-year-old actress returning, seven years after she quit the Street.

A Coronation Street spokeswoman said: ‘‘It is no secret that there have been talks with Julie about her possible return.

‘‘Julie has indicated that she would like to come back as Bet. But no decision has been taken yet.’’

Goodyear became a firm favourite with soap fans, adding glamour and comedy to the ITV soap for 25 years as Bet.

Her return to the soap would be a major coup in its ratings battle with EastEnders. Bosses have already signed up veteran comedian Roy Hudd to add some laughs to the show.

Street bosses earlier this month announced that three characters would be axed. Dr Matt Ramsden, his wife Charlie and Bobbi Lewis will all leave the show in March.
