Posh Spice today denied her life with David Beckham was anything like TV’s Footballer’s Wives - but said she understood why people found her ‘‘irritating as hell’’.

Victoria Beckham said the couple’s image was made up by the media and people were more interested in what they wore and how much she weighed than her musical career.

Talking on the Mike Toolan Show on Radio Key 103 in Manchester, she said: ‘‘I can actually see why people get irritated by me and David.

‘‘People think that’s what we are like - we have so much money, what shall we buy, look at my Louis Vuitton bag, my Gucci sunglasses.

‘‘The picture that the Press paints is not us. We are not like that. This person they make me out to be irritates the hell out of me as well.’’

She continued: ‘‘I’m famous for making music. With the Spice Girls we sold more than 40 million albums and people forget that.

‘‘They are more interested in what you buy when you go shopping, what you wear, what your hair’s like, what your make-up is like and how much you weigh.’’

She brushed off comparisons to ITV1’s Footballers Wives series saying: ‘‘It’s funny, I don’t know about any other football clubs, but it is nothing like that at Manchester United.’’

Victoria said with she was not expecting to make the Number One slot with her latest single A Mind Of Its Own, which is released on February 4.

She said: ‘‘The great thing for me now is that for the last two years, it has been ‘who is going to get number one?’ - and I haven’t got it either time.

‘‘Which in actual fact is great, because for me I am not expecting it to be Number One and I will be happy if I literally get a top 10 record.

‘‘Then maybe with the next single, or the single after, people might soon start to accept me for my music, because it is bloody good.’’

Victoria said she watched Pop Idol and thought it was ‘‘very good’’ television.

‘‘I think it is very interesting, it is also good for people to see how hard it is to get into a group. It was the same with the Spice Girls, except it wasn’t televised.’’

She said she felt sorry for some of the contestants.

‘‘To get up and sing in front of a crowd is very hard.’’

Victoria also talked about rumours that David wanted to move away from Manchester United.

‘‘There have been so many rumours. I think David would like to stay in Manchester. He has got his contract to sort out.

‘‘I don’t even understand offside so I’m not likely to understand a Manchester United contract.’’

She said their son Brooklyn loved the football club’s creche - but would not be drawn about whether the couple were trying for more children.

‘‘Definitely at some point in the future we would like to have more kids,’’ she said. ‘‘We will have to see what happens.’’
