Chitty Chitty Bang Bang 'most expensive musical ever'

Chitty Chitty Bang Bang is expected to be the most expensive musical ever staged.

It is costing the producers more than £750,000 just to make the famous car "fly" on stage.

The final cost is expected to be higher than the record £5m bill for staging The Witches Of Eastwick.

Producer Michael Rose said: "This is event theatre and that doesn't come cheap."

The show will begin previews at the London Palladium next March.
