Sony Mobile unveils 3D scanning smartphones

Today saw the unveiling of two new smartphones from Sony Mobile, both of which feature world-first smartphone technology: 3D scanning.

The Sony Xperia XZ1 (available from mid-September) and the Sony Xperia XZ1 Compact (available from October) feature a 3D scanner named Creator that is able to capture 3D scans in just one minute, providing users with highly detailed 3D scans they can use for a wide variety of purposes including:

• 3D stickers for messenger apps
• PlayStation characters
• Avatars for apps and wallpapers
• Memorable keepsakes
