Unicode 10 launched

Yesterday saw the launch of Unicode 10, the latest emoji update that brings with it a total of 56 new emojis including a Bitcoin emoji and a sandwich emoji, as revealed in a blog post from the Unicode Consortium.

The new Unicode 10 update also includes support for lesser-used languages plus new 8,518 characters, bringing the total number of emoji characters to 136,690.

The new emojis that are part of Unicode 10 will likely see their debut with the roll out of iOS 11 later this year.

No information about when the update would reach Android or other operating systems was provided.
