She developed a love of running in school, and she runs for the ‘buzz’.
“I love training for a marathon. I love the runner’s high you get after a good session. On the day, there is nothing like standing on the starting line with hundreds others, all there with the same purpose and of course crossing the finish line is a thrill every time.”
Róisín has lost count of how many marathons and half marathons she has taken part in.
“My first half marathon was in Dublin in 2010. I did it with a friend, who was super fit. I had done no training and nearly died at the finish line, but that gave me the motivation I needed to train properly for the next one.
“My first proper half marathon was Cork City in 2011 and I did my first full in Cork in 2012.”
Róisín incorporates a number of activities into her training, and uses technology to track her progress.
“I train four to five times a week. Generally it is a few short runs with one long run a week. I recently cycled 200km along the coast of West Cork to build up stamina and pace. I also play basketball once a week.
“I think it is important to train in a number of ways and methods in order to ensure a well balanced training programme. I use the Asics app to monitor my progress and map out my training.”
She says she loves taking part in the Cork City Marathon each year.
“I try to do the Cork marathon every year since I moved to the city in 2012. I love running around the city and I try to train on the roads as much as I can.
"I love the comradery and community that appears on the day and every year without fail there is a family that gives out cut oranges on the road into Turners Cross that gets me to the finish line!”
