Five events to check out at the Cork International Choral Festival today (Friday, April 28)

The Composers in the Classroom (CIC) scheme is an initiative which brings professional composers and musicians, quite literally, into the classroom as part of a special curriculum devised for transition year music students and their teachers.
The residency culminates in a concert where students get the chance to perform their compositions and listen to the composition of other schools in the scheme.
A seminar on New Choral Music will take place with Chamber Choir Ireland and Paul Hillier, one of the world’s leading specialists on choral music, at Cork School of Music.
The style of presentation will offer seminar attendees a more relevant and engaging approach to how texts are selected, the related process of composing music appropriate to the text, and the input of the singers as to its accessibility.
Two top international choirs will bring their spirited tones to the evocative surroundings of one of the city’s most historic buildings, Freemasons’ Hall.
Chamber Choir Ireland, the Choral Festival’s choir-in-residence, will perform ‘The Great Mystery’ Gala concert at St Fin Barre’s Cathedral. The concert will premiere two new commissions from David Fennessy and John Lonergan.
New Dublin Voices, an internationally acclaimed award-winning chamber choir, will perform - ‘Evocations’ - a late night concert noted for its sacred and reflective atmosphere at the Cathedral of St Mary and St Anne
