iPhone 8 could feature Apple Smart Connector
A new report from The Verifier (via AppleInsider) suggests that Apple’s upcoming iPhone 8 flagship smartphone could feature a variation of the Apple Smart Connector.
The Apple Smart Connector debuted in 2015’s 12.9-inch iPad Pro and is a magnetic connector used to charge Apple devices or connect a keyboard.
However, the report states the iPhone 8’s Apple Smart Connector could potentially be used for AR and VR applications in addition to charging.
Prior to its release, the iPhone 7 was expected to feature the Apple Smart Connector due to its inclusion in leaked schematics but the connector was omitted from the device’s final build.
