Twitter may launch paid membership service

Twitter is reportedly considering introducing a paid membership service for a ‘premium’ version of the social network’s digital services, as revealed by Twitter in an interview with The Verge.

Participating in the paid membership will allegedly provide users with access to an enhanced version of Tweetdeck, Twitter’s customisable interface typically used by members of the media to track stories in real time as they develop.

Twitter has experienced difficulty in retaining advertisers over the past months as rival platforms Snapchat and Instagram continue to grow in popularity.

The addition of a paid membership service could help the company generate profit while improving its service.
