Sony patent explores power sharing options

A new patent filed by Sony last Friday looks to explore how smartphones can wirelessly transfer power to one another, as reported by Gizmodo.

The patent is based on research by James Richard Milne, True Xiong, and Charles McCoy, and focuses on how hotspots could be used to wirelessly share power between devices.

It should be noted however that this patent only seeks to explore what could be done rather than propose the technology needed to share power wirelessly.

As the article notes, Sony has long supported the development of the wireless Near Field Communication technology that would be required to make the patent a reality.
