Google rebrands Messenger as Android Messages

A new update from Google for its Messenger communications app rebrands the app as Android Messages while retaining the app's core functionality.

Google has released an update for its Messenger communication app which renames the app as Android Messages, as noted in an article from Android Central.

While the update does change the app’s name, the core functionality of Google’s messaging app remains the same.

In addition to the rebranding, the update also contains bug and stability improvements, plus an easier-to-use sign-up for users looking for enhanced features via Rich Communications Services (RCS), the latest universal standard for text-based communication programs.

Over 20 smartphone manufacturers including Nokia, Sony and LG will use Android Messages as the default SMS app for their devices.
