Taxi drivers give us the scoop on New Year's

Taxis can offer passengers a therapeutic journey at this time of year. Rita de Brún spoke to drivers about their New Year experiences.

New Year is a time of reflection. Most of us do that quietly, but put us in the back-seat of a taxi and chances are we’ll natter away. For some there are topics it’s easier to broach with strangers than with loved ones.

For others, who might be isolated, a cab is a place to share thoughts that might otherwise remain unspoken. For both, drivers fulfil a valued listening role, one that equips them to accurately gauge the mood of a nation.
