Terminally ill boy dies in Santa’s arms after he grants his last wish
But when the nurse of a Tennessee hospital rang him to rush to a terminally-ill child’s side, he dropped all his tools and went straight there.
He didn’t even have time to put on his full suit, just his santa suspenders.
Speaking to Knoxville News Sentinel, Santa’s friend Eric Schmitt-Matzen said: "he sized up the situation and told everyone, ’If you think you’re going to lose it, please leave the room. If I see you crying, I’ll break down and can’t do my job’".
The boy’s parents and relatives left the room and watched the magic through the window.
"He was laying there, so weak it looked like he was ready to fall asleep," he said.
"He sat down on his bed and asked, ’Say, what’s this I hear about you’re gonna miss Christmas?
There’s no way you can miss Christmas. Why, you’re my number one elf’."
"I am?" the boy asked before taking the paw patrol toy Santa brought to him.
Although he couldn’t open it as he was too weak.
"They say I’m gonna die. How can I tell when I get to where I’m going?" the five-year-old asked the famous man.
But Santa assured him that "when you get there, you tell them you’re Santa’s number one elf, and I know they’ll let you in."
The boy uttered his final words while Santa hugged him, and they were, "Santa, can you help me?"
He then quietly passed away.
Eric Schmitt-Matzen said that he was deeply affected by the incident and revealed that he cried for days afterwards.

"My wife and I were scheduled to visit our grandchildren in Nashville the next day, but I told her to go by herself," he said.
"I was a basket case for three days. It took me a week or two to stop thinking about it all the time."
Work at the North Pole has been quiet since it happened but Santa assured everyone that "when I saw all those children laughing, it brought me back into the fold".
