The feature was aired on Channel 2M and showed how to conceal domestic violence with make-up, using a model whose face was made to look bruised.

The segment sparked outrage and a petition has been set up called ’Don’t cover domestic violence with makeup!’

The petition states: "As Moroccan women and as feminist activists in Morocco, and in the name of all Moroccan people, we denounce the message of normalization with violence against women… Do not cover domestic violence with makeup, condemn the aggressor!"

Channel 2M has removed the clip from its website but it doesn’t change the fact that Morocco's penal code does not specifically define domestic violence. Human Rights Watch has stated: "The minimal references to domestic violence under the penal code fall far short of international human rights law requirements."

The segment starts at 9.15 mins
