2 Laughing all the way to the Bank 

Returning for its seventh year Kilkenomics, the only economic festival which promises a mix of laughs and high finance returns on Thursday and runs until Sunday.

Noted economists along with top comics will descend on the Medieval Mile of Kilkenny for four days of economic enlightenment with a healthy dose of laughs. Economists Dan Ariely, Tim Harford, Diane Coyle, and Stephanie Kelton are making their way to the Marble City where they will be joined by Dara O’Briain, Des Bishop, Karl Spain and Colin O’Regan.

3 En Pointe 

Cork City Ballet’s production of Giselle, described as one of the greatest romantic ballets of all times, takes place in the Cork Opera House from Thursday to Saturday.

The title role of Giselle will be danced by Russian prima ballerina Ekaterina Bortyakova and she will be partnered by the Russian Ballet star Akzhol Mussakhanov - both principal dancers with Moscow State Ballet.

They will be joined by soloists and the full corps de ballet from Cork City Ballet.

4 Crafty Ideas

The Glucksman’s annual Craft & Design Fair kicks off on Friday and runs for the weekend.

The fair, set in the gallery’s award winning exhibition space, showcases high quality Irish craft and design where more than 50 leading and emerging craftspeople selling their stunning designs in jewellery, ceramics, woodturning, lighting, textiles & new technologies. It is open on Saturday from 10 - 6pm and on Sunday from 11-5pm.

5 Spin us a Yarn

The Sneem International Storytelling & Folklore Festival starts this Friday and promises a weekend of tall tales.

Storytellers from America and across Ireland, John B. Keane’s ‘The Matchmaker’ starring Mary McEvoy and Jon Kenny, The Story Swap Sessions and a conversation with renowned Irish author Alice Taylor are just some of the highlights awaiting you in the village of Sneem in South Kerry.

This year the festival has attracted leading professional storytellers who will perform at the Storytelling Concert on Friday night.

There is also a storytelling pub trail, a Young Tellers concert (11-18 year olds), lunchtime theatre (‘Faith Healer’ by Brian Friel, performed by Sneem DramSoc) and the hugely popular ‘Story Swap Sessions’ which are hosted by our featured tellers over the weekend.

A weekend festival ticket for all events including the storytelling concert and ‘The Matchmaker’ is €50.
