Miss Bumbum competition sparks outrage in Brazil as contestants portray Last Supper painting

Brazil’s Miss Bumbum competition has sparked controversy after contestants posed for a NSFW version of the Last Supper painting.

The iconic religious painting traditionally showed Jesus and his disciples at The Last Supper.

The famous competition is one of Brazil’s most hotly-disputed beauty contests with winners becoming overnight celebrities.

One of the women involved expressed that she regretted posing for the picture and said she had "asked forgiveness from God for a great sin."

The woman who posed as Jesus said: "I did the photo because of my contract. But I didn’t like it and I wasn’t happy about it. You can’t play around with the word of God."

"I’ve already asked forgiveness from God, and I ask forgiveness from everyone else. We went too far. We were part of a great sin."

Religious leaders have branded the remake of the Da Vinci masterpiece as "deeply disrespectful".

Brazil is known to have the largest number of Catholics in the world. Catholicism has been Brazil’s main religion since the beginning of the 16th century.
