Beauty website whips up our national pride by calling Sudocrem British

Okay, we’ve covered our obsession with Sudocrem here in Ireland before.

Beauty website whips up our national pride by calling Sudocrem British

Now, we won’t go on about it, it’s only a staple of Irish life after all, but if you provoke us....

And that is what a beauty website has inadvertantly done with a tweet pouring huge praise on our beloved cream.

Note where the American site, Into The Gloss, has claimed Sudocrem is from.

As expected, out Twitter warriors rose up to defend our birthright....

The article itself, called Big In London: Sudocrem doesn’t mention that it comes from Ireland, but does celebrate our beloved Sudocrem as "a miraculous solution to inflamed, angry spots and redness, so it’s come to the aid of many a rosacea-prone sucker like myself. Ditto in the case of sunburn, ingrown hairs, eczema, or grazes. It’s like a dermatological first-aid kit all in one."

Some commenters on the piece weren’t happy.

One said: "It comes from Ireland actually, and that’s not mentioned here. It became popular in Ireland and then it was sold in the UK and is popular there too. Made in Dublin."

While another said: "It’s actually an Irish product. Still made in Dublin Ireland. It’s up there with Guinness."

Into The Gloss came back in the comments to try and clear up the mess: "You’re totally right! We didn’t mean to imply it was made in the UK, sorry if it came off that way :( Our freelance writer from the UK simply meant to imply that it was big over there."

Fair enough, although one person wasn’t convinced.

Still, thanks for the kudos.
