Incredible footage shows humpback breaching and landing right by boat

Photographer Beau Pilgrim was on a boat off the coast of Tonga when he found himself in the perfect position to catch this epic leap by a humpback whale on video.

The clip shows the whale swimming up from beneath, breaching and clearing the water before slapping back down just metres from Pilgirm.

It’s an incredible - and surprisingly gracefully - feat for so large an animal.

You wouldn’t want to be any closer than that.
