Visually impaired UCC student issues heartfelt plea to save his dying guide dog
Dara Ó Cinnéide, who is studying arts in UCC, received the news that his companion Patsy has just a couple of months to live last week.
Vets believe they can give Patsy at least another two years of life if they perform surgery to remove the cancer which will cost €4,000, but Dara does not have pet insurance and now fears losing his pal.
"Patsy, is a six-year-old golden retriever who brings joy to the lives of everyone whom she meets. She is gentle, moody, stubborn and most importantly my best friend and world," says Dara.

"She has changed my life in ways unimaginable. Unfortunately, Patsy was diagnosed with severe cancer last week and only has between two to three months to live. We have her booked for surgery which will give her another two years of life at least, but as I don't have her insured, I am finding it difficult to raise the money in the time leading up to the surgery."
Dara has set up a Gofundme page to raise funds for the surgery and so far has raised in excess of €1,400.
Friend Héléne Sarah said: "Dara and his guide dog Patsy are a popular duo around UCC campus and even made an appearance on RTÉ's today show. Not only is she his guide dog, she is his best friend. They have the most beautiful companionship ever."
