Latest: Uber say this viral story is NOT a tricksy marketing effort

The story sparked some sleuthing on Reddit, with posters suggesting the taxi-man might have been part of a planned effort to send a story viral.

Uber say no, and told us: "(We) can confirm the person in this post is not associated with the Uber marketing team. Hope that helps clear up any additional questions."

Earlier:

A viral story about three sound lads who took their taxi-man to a baseball game for the craic may not be as 'natural' as it seems.

A story was posted to Reddit by an Uber taxi-driver called 'davepardo' who picked up three guys from Chicago's Union Station heading to Wrigley Field for the September 1 baseball game between Chicago Cubs and San Francisco Giants.

The Uber taxi-man said that the boys had an extra ticket and brought him to the game!

However, other Redditors wondered if this glorious tale of serendipity might not be all it seemed…

The story, posted on Reddit, attracted a lot of speculation from Redditors who googled the Uber taxi-driver and found his Linkedin profile, which said he worked in marketing.

As well as this another Redditor wrote that the Uber taxi-man only posts about Uber on his Reddit profile.

Based on this information, Redditors speculated in the thread below the picture that the man was actually working on a viral campaign for the company Uber.

After posting their suspicions on the thread, the Uber taxi-man then deleted his profile, adding further fuel to the non-existent fire.

So now we know.
