Young American waitress receives racist note from couple she served

A waitress in an American cafe had an unpleasant experience recently when she became the subject of a hateful comment after serving a couple in the diner where she worked.

Rather than receiving a tip from her customers she found herself subjected to a xenophobic comment.

18-year-old Sadie Elledge found the comment "We only tip citizens" written where a tip is normally added on a receipt.

Since getting the note, her grandfather John Elledge posted it on Facebook and a number of media outlets have written about the incident and how awful it was for the young waitress, who was born in the US.

Sadie, who is of Honduran and Mexican descent, works in an immigrant created and owned business called ’Jess’ Lunch’.

The young waitress said that that the couple has been acting strange while she served them, staying quiet, not talking to her and only nodding their heads.

Sadie said the incident has made her a stronger person as she knows she can’t let these things bother her.

Her boss, Angeliki Floros said these people are cowards and she would rather they did not dine at ’Jess’ Lunch’ again.
