2.  Harvest Heritage

Bere Island will host a harvest festival to celebrate the ancient Celtic festival Lughnasadh this weekend.

Events include learning to weave your own harvest knot, making a traditional willow basket, a talk with a leading folklorist on the traditions and customs of Lughnasadh, a guided walk around Bere Island with a local historian and an illustrated talk on a photography project which captures the unique colours of the Irish landscape.

3. Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Park

Ballincollig Regional Park is playing host tomorrow to Music in the Community’s free music festival.

Now in its second year, there will be everything from classical to folk to rock, culminating with headline acts Declan O’Rourke and ‘The Four of Us’ accompanied by the Brandy Lane Orchestra.

There will be food stalls and circus entertainers from 1.30pm to 6pm.

4. A Rose by any other name

The annual Rose of Tralee Festival is in full swing this weekend.

Celebrating 57 years, the festival has grown to include street entertainment, a carnival, live concerts, theatre, circus acts, markets, funfairs and fireworks.

The live TV finals take place on Monday and Tuesday, hosted by the inimitable Dáithí Ó Sé.

5. High Notes

Bunratty Castle and Folk Park is embracing the arrival of Fleadh Cheoil na hEireann to Ennis by hosting a special “Fun with the Fleadh event” where people can jam with the Folk Park’s traditional Irish musicians, learn about the history of musical instruments, or just listen to good toe tapping trad.

The event runs from 10am to 4pm today and tomorrow.
