Declan Mangan, a Killorglin native and a retired national teacher, is chairmain of Puck Fair, which takes place in the Co Kerry town from today until Saturday. Mangan is also former manager of Dooks Golf Club and has been heavily involved in the Killorglin Pantomime for 53 years. See

I’d have to say the best gig I’ve been at recently was Cliff Richard at the INEC. The songs brought back great memories.

I usually buy and listen to CDs and also listen to music on FM radio.

Best piece of music you’ve been listening to lately (new or old):

Lately I’ve been enjoying listening to Andre Rieu.

First ever piece of music or art or film or gig that really moved you:

It would be seeing Maureen Potter in panto. A very funny performer.

The best gig or show you’ve ever seen:

I saw French mime artist Marcel Marceau, who performed for two hours without a word spoken but it was just superb entertainment.

Most memorable performance from Puck Fair events:

Derek Ryan’s performance at Puck Fair 2015 was particularly memorable.

Tell us about your TV viewing:

I watch a lot of sports on TV, as well as films and documentaries.

Radio listening:

Mainly I’d listen to news and sports on the radio.

Your best/most famous celebrity encounter:

I once bumped into Hugh Grant at Dooks Golf Club in 2003.

Most expensive item of clothing you’ve ever bought — what was it and how much?

A winter coat, which cost me €185.

Tech habits: what you use, and what you use it for:

I use a laptop for script writing and my iPhone is mainly used for keeping in touch.

Unsung hero – individual, organisation or group you think don’t get the profile/praise they deserve:

That’s an easy one — I’d have to say the Puck Fair Organising Committee. Never have so few done so much for so many.

You are king for a day — what’s your first decree?

I would demand that everybody learn how to use apostrophes properly!
