A Cork silver sauceboat by Egan’s sold for €1,800 at Cork Auction Rooms last Sunday.

This 1922 piece was thought to have been a piece of Republican Silver but it turned out to have a Dublin mark which means that, though made in 1922, Egan’s managed to transport it to the assay office in Dublin during the Civil War.

Silver made during July-September 1922 could not be sent to Dublin. It was stamped locally and became known as Republican Silver.

Vintage items from a west Cork collection sold out, with enamel signs making between €300 and €400 each. The second part of this single-owner collection comes up at Cork Auction Rooms on the last Sunday in August.
