This lovely story will make you want to be a teacher

This is a story for the teachers out there who wonder if what they do makes a difference to children’s lives.

This lovely story will make you want to be a teacher

Teachers can have tough days at school and it may be easy to think that what you do or say does not have an impact on those little tykes.

Well this teacher, Sister Finbar, is no longer in doubt of her teaching skills, thanks to a student who got in touch, 38 years later, to let her know she was her favourite teacher.

Gina Fiori, a past pupil of Sister Finbar when she lived in Australia, was telling her daughter about her favourite teacher when her daughter suggested she get in touch.

Thanks to the internet Gina managed to find contact details for the Sisters of St Joseph of the Sacred Heart who forwarded her email to Sister Finbarr, who now lives in Charleville, Co Cork.

Gina sent a picture of her and her favourite teacher on her communion along with a brief message saying she often thought about Sister Finbar, who was her favourite teacher and she just wanted to say hello.

A poignant reminder of the impact teachers can have on their pupils and a lovely endorsement for the speedy age of the internet that can put us in contact with people on the other side of the world with the touch of a button.
