Treatment of the month: A Taste of the Mediterranean, Inchydoney Island Lodge & Spa

Let me describe to you my perfect day. Wake in a bed big enough to sleep four people. Pull the curtains, and emerge to your very own balcony, clear blue skies and a beach view.

You float downstairs to breakfast (after a shower laden with Elemis potions and creams) to a full Irish breakfast, fresh fruit, croissants still warm from the oven.

There’s a morning stroll on the beach, on one of those rare Irish summer days when there’s true heat in the sun. Usually nothing could entice you from it.

But usually you don’t have a spa treatment booked at the The Spa at Inchydoney Island Lodge.

And a signature one at that.

Launched this year, A Taste of the Mediterranean is an hour-long face and body ritual that draws on the scents of the place that gave it its name.

Think lavender, orange blossom, mandarin and rosemary.

It begins with a foot cleanse and body polish, lavender-enriched to relax the body and mind.

Then there’s a mandarin and rose shiatsu pressure point back massage to relieve tension. It’s rare to find a massage that strikes a balance between muscle tension relief, and relaxation.

Somehow, my therapist achieved both. The knots in my shoulders were released, yet I was close to sleep as she did it.

I stayed in my semi dream state for the chamomile and ylang ylang milk facial cleanse, and algae and gold face mask.

A calming scalp massage and I was in a state of bliss as yet again I found myself floating through Incydoney’s corridors, this time to the spa’s relaxation room.

A Taste of the Mediteranean costs €110, plus there’s also access to the seawater therapy pool, sauna and hammam.

Two hours after setting foot in the spa I was back on the beach, relaxed, refreshed, rejuvenated.

Like I said, a perfect day.
