No Man's Sky accused of patent infringement

Dutch research company Genicap claims that Hello Games has utilised its mathematical formula to procedurally generate No Man’s Sky’s universe. Its “superformula” was developed by plant geneticist Johan Gielis who used it to describe a variety of natural forms, including snowflakes, crystals, and starfish using a computer mathematics formula.

The company points to quotes from Hello Games’ Sean Murray who mentions the superformula in an article from The New Yorker magazine in May, 2015.
