Work by some of Ireland’s top artists at modest prices in Whyte's online-only auction

Des O’Sullivan notices some low estimates on pieces of art by famous Irish artists in Whyte’s online-only auction.

There should be much to interest new and established collectors at Whyte’s summer art auction on Monday week.

Whyte’s say it offers art lovers a fantastic opportunity to acquire quality artwork from Ireland’s best-known artists at a more modest price point.

This is an online-only sale of 150 lots with estimates from €100 to €3,000.

The list of artists whose work is included reads higher than this.

‘Wet Day Near Skibbereen, Co Cork’, 1985, by Frank Egginton at Whyte’s online-only sale of Irish art.

There is work by Jack B Yeats, Sir John Lavery, Paul Henry, Mainie Jellett, Harry Kernoff, Estella Solomons, Mary Swanzy, Colin Middleton, Tony O’Malley, Sean McSweeney, Brian Bourke and Maurice Wilks.

A dramatic rendering of Bantry Bay by Eileen Meagher is estimated at just €300-€500.

Near Mount Brandon by Liam O’Neill has an estimate of €1,500-€1,800 and Wet Day near Skibbereen by Frank Egginton is estimated at €600-€800.

‘Scraping the Surface’, 1994, by John Kindness at Whyte’s online Irish art auction.

There is a more hard-edged postmodern art example by John Kindness.

His Scraping the Surface from 1994 utilises the door of a New York yellow taxi.

An artist’s proof etching of this work with foil blocking has an estimate of €300-€500.

Among the other artists whose work will feature are Alice Maher, Richard Gorman, Michael Mulcahy, Markey Robinson, Graham Knuttel, Martin Mooney, Neil Shawcross, Carey Clarke, Robert Taylor Carson and Patrick Leonard.
