You won't believe what the Mosney holiday camp looks like now

For a lot of Irish people, the Mosney holiday camp in Co Meath holds some special childhood memories.

You won't believe what the Mosney holiday camp looks like now

Before the days of cheap trips aboard, families from across Ireland would flock to the camp in their droves to spend their summer holidays.

The camp - which opened as a Butlins in 1948 - also hosted the Community Games for many years.

But throughout the late 90s numbers visiting the camp started to drop dramatically, forcing it to close in 2000.

Since then part of the camp has been used by the Government to house some asylum seekers, however a recent video from FlipFlop Windsurfing on YouTube shows the rest of it has fallen into a sad state of neglect.

The footage shows the YouTuber walking through a camp area, now totally overgrown and dilapidated, as well as visiting the famous Mosney Lounge and Bob’s Leisure centre.

It’s a very sad sight.

Maybe this footage of Mosney in its heyday will make you feel better...
