VIDEO Whiplash director's next film has Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone and music

Whiplash was an award winning bolt from the blue and an electrifying debut for writer/director Damien Chazelle, so what did he do next? Why a musical romance set in a stylised Los Angeles starring the ridiculously talented Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone.

Here's La La Land...

That's one heck of a teaser trailer, introducing the world to a magical kind of movie musical and a brief glimpse at the characters played by Stone and Gosling. She's an aspiring actress working as a waitress, he's a struggling jazz sort and when they meet the sparks fly.

The pair have sizzled on the screen before in Crazy Stupid Love (and less so in Gangster Squad) and they're both looking in fine form here, together with some gorgeous cinematography by Linus Sandgren. Chazelle is a trained drummer and reunites with Whiplash composer Justin Hurwitz here so you know the music is also going to be something special.

We don't know much about La La Land yet and that's just fine. We do know Stone and Gosling will be joined by other talented folks, including Rosemarie DeWitt and J.K. Simmons, back with Chazelle after picking up a well deserved Oscar for Whiplash.

La La Land will premiere at the Venice Film Festival on the 31st of August, 2016 before hitting cinemas in the States in December and in Ireland in January, 2017.
