Irish actress Ruth Negga has been our little secret for a good few years now, pulling out strong performances in local productions like Isolation and Breakfast on Pluto and convincing everyone she's American with a perfect accent in Marvels Agents of SHIELD.

In 2016, everyone is going to know her name, with a role in Warcraft under her belt and an impressive turn in AMC's Preacher as the not so lawful Tulip. The real plaudits are yet to come, thanks to the latest film by Jeff Nicols (Take Shelter, Mud) - Loving.

Here's the first trailer, and it's already looking like an Oscar winner.

This is the true story of Richard and Mildred Loving, a married mixed race couple who were arrested for cohabiting in 1958. The case ended up going to the Supreme Court and became one of the most influential in the history of the state.

Negga is paired with the most excellent Joel Edgerton here, returning to the Nichols fold after his work on Midnight Express. There's also a glimpse of Nichols' touchstone, with the actor appearing in all five features by the director to date.

Loving is in cinemas in the States in November 2016 - in good time for Oscar season - but won't be out in Ireland until February 2017.
