'Celebgate' phisher pleads guilty

One of the men responsible for the ‘Celebgate’ phishing attack, Edward Majerczyk, has pleased guilty to accessing more than 300 iCloud and Gmail accounts.

It is believed that “at least 30” of these belonged to celebrities. In this phishing attack, victims were convinced to enter their account details into fake websites.

Previously, another man involved in Celebgate, Ryan Collins, took a plea in return for a recommended sentence of 18 months. It is believed that Majerczyk will agree to the same plea, though the maximum penalty is five years in federal prison. Majerczyk’s case is being transferred to Northern District of Illinois for sentencing.
