Lost in Space remake coming to Netflix
Sci-fi series Lost in Space kicked off in 1965 on CBS and ran for three seasons. It was pretty hokey stuff but earned legions of fans because everyone likes a bit of sci-fi, or at least they used to. Netflix is hoping to rekindle that interest with an all new take on the series.
A 10 episode run is planned to release in 2018, focussing on:
That's a pretty broad pitch, leaving the creative sorts plenty of room to pay homage to the original show and also do whatever the heck they want. The Last Witch Hunter scribes Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless are on writing duty here, with Zack Estrin (Charmed, Prison Break) as showrunner.
It's an interesting one for Netflix to handle, especially with the heavy special effects needs of the sci-fi setup. It's a genre they haven't handled much to date, even shows like Sense8 have been pretty light on SFX, and will represent a different level of production for the teams. That said, they've also got an adaptation of Richard Morgan's Altered Carbon in the works, so they're going to have to go big with the technical side.
Lost in Space will arrive sometime in 2018, the cast will be all important for this one.
