James Cameron has made Aliens, The Abyss, True Lies, Terminator, Terminator 2 and the two biggest movies of all time - Titanic and Avatar, so he can pretty much say whatever he likes.

And he did when asked in a wide ranging interview with Hannah Litchfield about what he thought of the latest Star Wars film. His comments came while talking about how he got into filmmaking, firstly as a fan propelled by Kubrik's 2001 and then when A New Hope hit in 1977 it made him decide that it was time to get involved in the industy.

His passionate comments about Star Wars start at 2.13 and how it led to filmmaking before Litchfield branches off to ask about his thoughts on The Force Awakens by 3.13 and Cameron has some pretty interesting thoughts.
