Google could launch own non-Nexus phone this year

Google has had its hand in the smartphone world for several years now but a new report is suggesting that a new strategy could be in the works.

Google could launch own non-Nexus phone this year

Google has had moderate to good success to date with their Nexus line - phones made by a variety of manufacturers which come with the latest version of stock Android as standard. However a new report suggests that the company isn't satisfied with just having the Nexus phones out in the wild, and that it wants to work on devices with more of a specifically Google DNA.

Rather than letting other companies handle the design and manufacture, the new handsets would be made entirely by Google with an eye to further growing their own ecosystem. That would include the way the phones look and their internal specs but also the software inside.
