Criterion Games' open-world racer cancelled

EA teased the biggest game that Criterion has ever made at E3 2014, but never referenced the game after that. A no-show at this year's E3 conference seemed ominous and, sure enough, EA has since revealed that it's been cancelled.

An EA spokesperson told GameSpot that the studio has "moved on from the previous project they've spoken about and aren't pursuing it."

Criterion is now co-developing Star Wars: Battlefront X-Wing VR Mission. It will be released in October.

Criterion's racing game was set to feature all manners of vehicles and modes of transport, including helicopters, wing-suits, jet skis and ATVs. But we'll just have to imagine what could have been. You can get an idea of what should have been in store in the trailer below.
