Crazy War on Everyone trailer - from the director of The Guard and Calvary
Back in early 2014 we got the chance to chat to director John Michael McDonagh about Calvary and what we would be doing next. At the time "The next movie looks like it might go with Michael Pena and Garett Hedlund about two corrupt cops in Texas"
That film was War on Everyone and it eventually came together with the (better) Alexander Skarsgard taking over from Hedlund. And now we have the first teaser trailer. This is absolutely, positively not safe for work - which you can probably tell from the sign at the start.
The idea of McDonagh bringing his dark comedy to the US sounded like a bit of a gamble but he seems to have just gone for it here, and the results look highly entertaining. It helps that you've got a charasmatic lead in Skarsgard and Michael Pena as his partner in crime - an actor who is still testing his own high comedic talent as we recently saw in Ant-Man.
The plot goes like this: "In Albuquerque, New Mexico, Terry Monroe (Skarsgård) and Bob Bolaño (Peña) are two corrupt cops who set out to blackmail and frame every criminal unfortunate enough to cross their path. Things take a sinister turn, however, when they try to intimidate someone who is more dangerous than they are. Or is he?"
Vague enough but the early reviews out of SXSW have been hugely positive.
War on Everyone will be in Irish cinemas on the 30th of September, 2016.
