Magic Leap will bring Star Wars to life in your living room

Virtual reality startup Magic Leap is working with Lucasfilm to bring Star Wars to life in your home.

Magic Leap will bring Star Wars to life in your living room

It's using mixed reality technology, which combines digital elements with the real world. Lucasfilm released a video to showcase how this works.

In the video, we see a pretty realistic C-3PO and R2-D2 wander around a living room without bumping into the furniture. R2-D2 then projects a hologram of stormtroopers raiding a village in search of the droids onto a table, before projecting a battle between Rebel and Imperial forces into the air.

The video notes, "Shot directly through Magic Leap technology. No special effects or compositing were used in the creation of this video." That's pretty impressive.

Nether company has revealed what is planned for the technology and there's no release date for Magic Leap as a consumer product just yet. But it is fun to see what they're experimenting with.
