The event was organised by GLEN, TENI and BelongTo and saw people, many draped in rainbow flags, come together outside City Hall, in solidarity with the 49 victims, their families and friends and the LGBT community.

Organisers read out the names of the shooting victims who have been identified so far and a minutes silence was held.

LGBTQ choir group Gloria then performed Somewhere Over the Rainbow.

Politicians such as Katherine Zappone, Leo Varadkar, Simon Coveney and Mary Lou McDonald as well as singer Brian Kennedy and comedian Katherine Lynch were also spotted among the crowd where many lit candles.

"Everyone was crying there wasn’t a dry eye around," an onlooker told Goss.ie

"It was great to see people come out and support the LGBT community".

A book of condolence was opened this morning in Cork’s City Hall and a vigil is to be held in Limerick this evening.
