Huawei will be one of the first smartphone manufacturers go support Google’s new VR platform, Daydream.

Huawei will launch first Daydream-compatible smartphone this year

Director of Huawei, Richard Yu, told the Wall Street Journal that the company plans to release a Google Daydream compatible handset this autumn. The company previously indicated that it would support the platform, and in fact the Nexus 6P does for development purposes, but gave no indication as to when it will reach the general consumer.

Google’s set of specifications for smartphones indicate that Huawei’s upcoming handset will feature a powerful processor, a range of sensors, and a high-density screen. That’s not much to go on, but at least it’s a sign that Huawei has another premium handset in the pipeline.

Google Daydream will also be supported by Samsung, HTC, LG, Xiaomi, ZTE, Asus, and Alcatel at some point in the future.
