Overwatch clocks up 7 million players in a week

Overwatch came out last week and was met with positive reactions from critics and gamers around the world. So much so that 7 million people are already playing.

That's a pretty staggering number for a brand new IP, and will be a source of confidence for developers Blizzard as they launch their first entirely new franchise in almost 20 years.

It's a big gamble, especially moving into a new genre for the company, and you can be sure that there are plans for the months and years and even the decade ahead to make sure that Overwatch remains a force to be reckoned with. Will it reach the lofty heights of World of Warcraft? Impossible to say but there's a lot more competition for our online hours these days.
