Lo and Behold trailer - Werner Herzog meets the internet

Werner Herzog is just a little bit great. The self taught filmmaker has been behind dozens of features in a career spanning more than 50 years, including Fitzcaraldo, Rescue Dawn and Bad Lieutenant Port of Call New Orleans.

He's long been an ardent documentary filmmaker too, with that call increasingly taking over his film output in recent years. Amazing features like Grizzly Man, Encounters at the End of the World and Into the Abyss have grown from that passion, and his latest looks to be just as engaging.

Lo & Behold, Reveries of the Connected World sees the 73 year old engaging with the internet and the effect these new technologies have had on our lives as only Herzog can.

It's Herzog's very palpable personality which makes these documentaries so interesting to watch. He's a far cry from the silent observer, getting involved with his subjects, asking utterly bizarre questions and revealing some amazing answers. And of course he wants to go to Mars!

The film premiered at Sundance in early 2016 and is in cinemas in August, 2016. For his next trick, he's making a doc about active volcanos. Of course he is.
